DRM

Free Culture

I figured the best way to finish tonight's recent anti-DRM related posts would be with a link to an excellent book entitled "Free Culture: How Big Media Uses Technology and the Law to Lock Down Culture and Control Creativity".

It is written by Lawrence Lessig and explains how the short-sighted interests and goals are completely blind to the long-term damage that will result to innovation. It is available for free on the Internet through a Creative Commons license and well worth the read.

DefectiveByDesign Vista Launch Protest

Windows Vista

DefectiveByDesign is organizing some protests (or actions as they put it) that will be coinciding with the Windows Vista launch parties that are going to be held in New York City.

If you are going to attend, you are asked that you obey the law and respect private property while you help raise public awareness to DRM's threat to both consumer and privacy rights.

PolishLinux: DRM, Vista, and Your Rights

Windows Vista

I just finished reading an excellent article regarding Digital Rights Management (DRM) on Polishlinux.

The article, entitled "DRM, Vista, and your rights", gives an readers an easy to understand and well thought out view on why DRM is harmful to consumers and what they can do to protect themselves from it.

It is one of the best anti-DRM articles that I have read in quite awhile and I highly recommend reading this article, and passing it around to your friends and associates.
