Aging computers shouldn't go to waste

How many of you out there hate to see aging computers go to waste?

I guess you could say that I have a bit of available soft spot for them because I have a habit of acquiring these machines from people and fixing them up when necessary so they can be put right back into service.

I personally have two older machines that I use on a constant basis.

Converting family members to GNU/Linux

I was finally able to convince my sister to make the switch to GNU/Linux a few months back and I am pleased to say that she is still happily chugging along with it.

She is not computer savvy and was initially being worried that her pictures and other files would not be accessible under an operating system other than Microsoft Windows. I installed Ubuntu on her machine and showed her all of the basics. I was kind of surprised at how quickly she her fondness for the operating system grew.

Gamepark Holdings announces a new GP2X Linux-based hand-held

GP2X-F200 Linux-based hand-held

Gamepark Holdings recently unveiled their newest model of the Linux-based GP2X hand-held.

I had held off from posting about it while I waited for more information to appear, but since a promotional video surfaced on YouTube today I figured it was time to weigh in on the GP2X-F200.

Finally bought myself a GP2X

I finally got around to purchasing the GP2X, a Linux-based hand-held game console and media player.
I have wanted to acquire one for a long time and I now realize that I should have bought it a long time ago.

It is a great product and has a great community behind it as well. I foresee myself mostly using the GP2X for playing my favorite console (e.g., NES, Sega Genesis, etc.) games on the go via emulators. Interestingly enough, that seems to be what most people use it for as well..

Here are some videos of the GP2X in action in case you are interested.
